Equinox Medical partnered with the Sydney University Society of Medical Innovation (SUSMI) for their Medivate Hackathon (27th – 29th September) to give students the opportunity to contribute to the innovation of medical technology and healthcare.

Over 3 intensive days, 21 participants across 5 teams gained knowledge about idea development, researching, validating, commercialising and pitching, from a range of mentors and speakers. This enabled them to go from ideation and brainstorming to presenting their innovative solutions aimed at tackling real world problems in the medical technology and healthcare industries.

Equinox provided relevant background information to 4 problem statements that required students solve a contemporary healthcare problem. As a Mentor, Equinox assisted students with their ideation with guidance on tackling the given problem statements and imparting advice for their solutions over 12 mentoring sessions and a workshop presentation.

At the end of the three days, the teams pitched their solutions to Equinox Executives and industry experts, where their problem statement, solution details, financial feasibility and ethics were considered in selecting a winner. Congratulations to the winning teams, Liquid Bio and ProbAIota, on their innovative solutions involving genomic sequencing.
